Our Story & Mandate

Why the foundation exists.

Safety and social resilience cannot depend solely on what happens after a crisis strikes. In Barak Valley, geographic isolation, winding rivers, monsoonal floods, and scattered tea-garden settlements mean that official emergency response often takes time to arrive.

When seconds count, the first people who can actually reach someone in distress are the neighbours already standing in the lane, the shopkeeper down the road, or local youth nearby. But if organized awareness, practical assistance, trained helpers, and verified trust do not already exist on the ground, no software application can invent them on the spot.

Barak Tea Yuva Foundation was established to provide this critical grassroots work with an institutional home. Incorporated as a Section 8 non-profit company, it gives legal accountability, statutory governance, and operational discipline to community-led initiatives across the valley.

“A serious institution exists behind the work. We began with real people, real relief, and real ground activities. Barak Kavach is the broader coordination network being built from that foundation.”

Joy Prakash Goala · Founder Director, Barak Tea Yuva Foundation

We work directly with residents across Cachar, Sribhumi (Karimganj), and Hailakandi—from tea-garden lines to district towns—building enduring local capacity that belongs to the community.

Scope of Action

The work is bigger than one initiative.

Barak Tea Yuva Foundation operates across multiple disciplines of community welfare, disaster resilience, healthcare assistance, and youth mobilization. Every programme is grounded in documented field activity.

Field Response
01

Emergency & Disaster Response

Immediate roadside relief and flood emergency support when monsoon inundates the valley.

Barak Valley experiences intense annual floods and severed connectivity. Our volunteers mobilise with drinking water, direct assistance, and roadside coordination along flooded highways and remote river settlements.

Ground Evidence: Documented water bottle distribution along flooded embankments and highway stretches.
Group of community volunteers gathered in front of a blood donation camp stage.
Direct Assistance
02

Community Health & Direct Aid

Organising voluntary blood camps, medical triage checks, and essential ration distribution.

In partnership with local tea-belt youth and healthcare professionals, we conduct voluntary blood donation drives, clinical blood-pressure monitoring, and provide essential packaged food supplies directly to village households.

Ground Evidence: Supervised clinical blood drives, patient monitoring, and doorstep food package distribution.

Outreach & Sports
03

Youth & Grassroots Mobilization

Uniting tea-estate youth, local sports clubs, and village elders around community action.

Real resilience requires trusting relationships on the ground. We work across tea garden lines and rural villages like Longai and Katabari, organizing sports tournaments and youth meetings that form our volunteer backbone.

Ground Evidence: Community consultations with village elders and police, plus youth volunteer networks on tea estates.
Volunteers in a classroom reviewing strategy diagrams and hand-drawn process charts.
Training & Briefings
04

Training & Operational Discipline

Structuring volunteer briefings, standard operating protocols, and emergency guidelines.

Good intentions must be supported by structured rules. We conduct classroom workshops, flowchart process mapping, ethical boundary briefings, and household distribution of national helplines (112, 181, 108, 1098).

Ground Evidence: Whiteboard workflow mapping, digital system training, and organizational conduct sessions.
